Time:2014.12.12 Publisher:EMBA OfficeWhen seen from the global, western countries have started the 4.0 industrial revolutions dominated by Internet information and machine intelligence.
Faced with the leading trend of production industry, is China ready for this challenge? On the night of Dec. 10, 2014, Dr. Wu Jun (founder partner of Feng Yuan Venture Capital, former chief researcher of Google, former vice president of Tencent, writer of best-seller On Top of the Wave, Beauty of Mathematics and The Light of the Civilization.) The forum was held in Xuhui Campus, Xinshang Schoolroom N100 and more than 300 elites from different industries discussed the machine intelligence and shared the most advanced ideas.
Ren Jian Biao, dean assistant of Antai and director of program EMBA hosted this forum. Ma Dexiu (former party secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU)), Wang Yanfeng (director of SJTU collaborative innovation center), Ma Wenyu (officer director of SJTU-EMBA) and Yuan Zhongxia (vice office director of SJTU-EMBA) attended the forum.
Will machine intelligence surpass artificial intelligence?
Human ancestors were proud of our brains, which can be used to develop machines during the course of human evolution so as to make us stronger. As a result, human beings have always carried the dream to stretch brains. The computation speed of the first computer in the world is five thousand characters every second while the number of the quickest computer worldwide reached 33.86 quadrillion every second according to the data released by Global Supercomputer Top 500 Organization.
Wu Jun suggested we should see from another angle to the issue of machine intelligence that computer intelligence may be different from artificial intelligence while we should know when computing is strong enough, quantity can produce qualitative change. He said: “ the speed of computer is accumulating by index while it is well of if human intelligence achieves linear growth, which is faced with bottleneck these years. One miracle may happen at a point when machine intelligence surpasses artificial intelligence and today, we are just in the cross point of it.”
Big data—basis of machine intelligence
He thought the twenty years to come was an era of big data, which was the basis of machine intelligence. Multi-dimensional is one of the features of big data. For example, Baidu Knows found out the relations between diet and income of an area to estimate the economic development of it by statistics given by people who were fond of eating delicious food. “In the past we always come into long tail problems, but we are clear due to the fact of multi-dimensional, long tail problems may not occur to every dimension. Large amount of data does not equal to big data.”
The importance of big data is more than technical level. Once data experiences qualitative change, our mindsets and way of handling matters will be changed. “we are now transferring from Moore’s Law to big data and in the future, companies may all use big data, which is likely to change the society more then the IT industry.”
The key technology of big data is the accumulation, which is often aimless and unstructured.
The next point is the storage of data. Although Moore’s Law has greatly expanded the storage capacity, more challenges are ahead. The third key essence of big data is security and privacy. If the big data gets lost, thousands of people will face the risk of leaking personal information.
The future is centered with 2% of “people”
Pilotless automobile of Google, automatic water spray robot, unmanned aerial vehicles…are the future belongs to humans or machines? His answered: “ it is obvious that the emergence of machine intelligence challenges the society to a great extend while the future is always centered by the creation of humans, which means machine will not control human.”
He also pointed out that in the future 2% of all the human beings would control the rest through machines. We must change our mindset in such an era to avoid being controlled by the 2%. This mindset of big data is comprehensive and can be seen from every person, every product and every transaction. What kind of company can be the big data one? He concluded, “Every company who reaches all human beings can be a big data based company”.
